Could they have come up with a more complicated title?
Disclaimer: I am not a huge fan of the X-Men, and have found the movies to be somewhat disappointing in the past. That being said, onto the review!
X-Men: Days of Future Past is a time leaping movie with an interesting story. Due to events in the past mutants are being hunted by machines created by non-mutants (normal humans) called Sentinels. In an effort to change the present state of events, the X-Men are going to attempt to send someone back in time to change the timeline.
This movie drops you right into the fracas and doesn't let up for a while. There are too many actors in this movie to list off, so I'll focus on those that are at the main focus of the movie. Hugh Jackman plays Wolverine (for the 11th times it seems), and does a lot of the heavy lifting in the movie. At this point, I can't envision anyone else being Wolverine, but I'm seriously worried about Jackman's health as no 45 year old man should look like he does in this movie. I thought veins might just start popping at anytime! Michael Fassbender is a fantastic younger Magneto, with Jame McAvoy carrying his weight as Professor X.
Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawerence also play "past" mutants. Her role as Mystique is not JLaw's best, but her character's actions were not explained well enough in my opinion, and at times the role was written poorly. Hoult plays loyal to Professor X mutant, Beast, and plays the conflicted mutant well. Evan Peters plays a mutant who shall not be named here, but steals every scene he is in. I want a movie based on that character...NOW!!!!
Overall, this was a really well done superhero movie that really had the feel of a Marvel produced movie, yet it was not. (While X-Men Comics are owned by Marvel, Marvel sold the movie rights for X-Men to 20th Century Fox, well before Iron Man and the Avengers leaped to the big screen.)
If you think you might see this movie: I feel that you need to see X-Men: First Class (and some of the other X-Men movies) to fully understand and appreciate this movie. Can you see it without the others? I guess, but you'll have some questions and will miss some brief references.
TLCR Opinion: Great Summer Blockbuster, and the best X-Men movie by far.
TLCR Rating: 5/5
